Storm Damage & Flooding Restoration

Bedford-Stuyvesant Mold Removal - Flood Cleanup and Mold Remediation

The overall goal of mold remediation is to completely get rid of or clean the materials that were damaged from the mold. When removing and cleaning mold, always stay safe, use effective materials, and be thorough. With any and all situations involving the cleanup and removal of mold, treating the main cause is of the utmost importance. Treating the main moisture problem is essential to keep mold from coming back and being a problem again.
Moisture inside of a building can come from leaks in the plumbing or roof, high humidity, condensation, or even floods. If it can be done, humidity in the building should remain around sixty-five percent. Keeping the conditions around this percentage will help keep mold from growing as much as possible. Keeping the balance of a medium amount of humidity will also prevent problems with condensation.
Condensation, when on older exteriors, could cause water to gather in other areas. Trying to maintain that balanced level of humidity indoors is key to ensuring mold does not grow. Most of the time, materials such as glass, hard plastics, and metals can be cleaned from any mold on the surface. Concrete and wooden surfaces are only to be cleaned if they are not falling apart from mold or other previous conditions.
Materials including wallboards, tiles from the ceiling, and insulation are to be thrown away immediately, safely, and properly. Wallboards are recommended to be either removed or cleaned from no less than six inches from the closest mold spot, damp area, or water-damaged area.
All cleaning is recommended to be done with a cleaning solution. The cleaning should be done gently to avoid any dust, mold, or other particles from spreading into the air. A High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter can be used to clean the air in the area as well as a HEPA vacuum to clean any dirt, dust, mold, or other debris on the floor.
If any material or object is too difficult to clean, it should be covered and removed to provide a better work environment. The use of a HEPA vacuum is necessary to prevent any debris or mold particles from rising into the air again. This is to be done to keep all the particles as contained as possible.
Any material that is moldy should be cleaned with a cleaning solution. Anything that cannot be properly cleaned must be disposed of properly. At the end of the project, the area should be completely dry and free of any mold or other debris.
The next sized area is a medium-sized one and its measurements are anywhere between ten to a hundred square feet. Just like with a small area, properly trained professionals can take on this project of removing and cleaning up the mold. The crew should wear N-95 respirators that are disposable so they can throw it away when the project is complete. Also, the use of gloves and safety goggles is also essential in making sure they are staying safe from mold.
The floor of the medium-sized projects should be covered. All affected items should be covered with proper plastic sheeting and sealed with duct tape. Also, any area where air can come in or out should be covered with a plastic sheet and sealed with duct tape. The use of a HEPA vacuum is recommended because these kinds of vacuum have a HEPA filter that keeps everything safely contained. HEPA vacuums keep debris from moving around, making the cleanup easier and the people doing it safer.
Anything that has mold on can be cleaned with a hand towel and a cleaning solution. Mold-infested materials can be put in trash bags and thrown away like regular trash. After every single surface is scrubbed clean, washed, and dried, the team should perform a final visual test. If everything checks out and the area is free of mold and other debris, then the job is complete.
A large area mold removal and cleaning project is anything larger than one hundred square feet. This project requires the assistance of trained and equipped mold removal and cleaning personnel like what we have here at Superior Home Restorations. These workers have better equipment suited for this job that will help with a project of this size.
Mold Inspection

The Final Inspection Means A Lot

There are specific measures to make sure that the overall removal and cleaning of mold was successful. There are evaluations done during and after the cleaning to ensure the overall quality is hitting the standards a project like this has. These indicators should be reached with all mold removal and cleaning projects regardless of size.
The first indicator is that the cause of the moisture has been solved. The second is the separation of the contaminated area was fulfilled. Next, is the removal of all trash and mold complete according to the work plan?
If so, then this part of the inspection is fulfilled. Furthermore, checks need to be made to show that all damp areas were treated, cleaned, and safe to use following the full cleanup project.

After that indicator, double-check to ensure all surfaces do not have any other substances or particles on it. Lastly, if a test of the environment was done before and after the project, the findings were compared, ensuring the safety of the room or building.
